I was immersed in fiber crafts when a toddler. As life went on, hand spinning and hand weaving became a way of life as soon as my university studies were completed. At first it was considered a treat in return for all those term papers but soon it became my way of life.
Many semester long classes were taken by a former university level weaving professor, and eventually my silk scarves were in various galleries across the country. When life caused a change of plans, knitting became the go to craft at end of a day as a secondary educator. Many years later, life changed again and a complete studio in a beautiful setting with both looms at work has become again my daily work. Knitting, embroidery and hand spinning are again the after work crafts to relax with.
Presently, it’s not all about scarves as it was in the past. I find myself focusing on table and shoulder adornments as I play a bit with rugs since one of my looms is truly a rug loom. Since by age and experience, I am a more mature weaver, I emphasize getting it done well over getting it done quickly. I missed weaving immensely in the past twenty five years thus now time on my looms in my studio, is a delicious treat in return for all the lesson planning, teaching and nurturing of all those teenagers. I am finally at a point that all dues are paid and I can weave and play with my fiber arts, to my heart’s content.
